Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Makeup trial?

The trial is one of the most important and fun parts of the bridal makeover process. Not only does it ensure you are completely happy with how you will look on your wedding day, it also tests your skin for any sensitivities to products, and gives time for your schedule, ultimately ensuring your big day runs smoothly. Trials will be held at my home makeup studio in York.

As your makeup artist it's important that once I have applied your makeup for your big day, you still look like you, which is why before we begin the trial I will chat with you about the make up you normally wear. Although this may sound obvious, the amount of make up you wear on the day must make you feel comfortable and look right on camera. This is why during the trial I'll try out different looks and take photographs to ensure the look comes across exactly how you would like. We will also discuss other parts of your day including your dress and overall theme to ensure the make up fits perfectly. A trial usually lasts between 1-2 hours, this ensures enough time to discuss options and trial ideas without feeling rushed. Bridesmaids and mother of the bride are very welcome at the brides trial, however please allow an extra hour for each person wanting a trial. Please feel free to bring any ideas with you, including any magazine cuttings or photo.

What happens at the trial?

We will discuss all the relevant details of your wedding, your dress, flowers, bridesmaid’s dresses, themes etc. We can then discuss ideas between us and then I will try out a look on you. Tweaks can then be made until you are 100% happy with your final look. I will take photos of you at the trial and make notes of the make up used. I would normally allow between1  and 2 hours for your make up trial. Should any of your bridal party require a make up trial, please allow an hour for each person.

What happens on my wedding day?

On your wedding day I will come to you whether it be at home or the venue itself. Arrival time etc will be arranged prior to the day, including the time of the wedding arranging individual make-up times for each person. If preferred the bride can be made up last to ensure that makeup is fresh for the ceremony. Make up tends to be applied after the hair has been styled but before you get in your dress.

What make up products do you use?

I use a wide range of products ranging from Mac, Benefit, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Yves Saint Laurent, Dermalogica etc. My huge range of make-up brushes are sable and synthetic hair, they are cleaned using a professional make up brush cleaner, making them 100% sterile. I clean them between each individual make up to ensure there is never any cross contamination.

What areas do you cover?

I am based in York, North Yorkshire. Anywhere within the York ringroad is included in the cost. Any further distance is charged at 45p per mile for a return journey. Please do not forget, I am happy to answer any questions or enquiries you have.

How much will it cost and when do I pay for your service?

The total cost will depend on how many people are being made up and if any extra travel expenses occur. This will all be calculated prior to your trial and wedding day. Payment for the trial is to be made on the day of the trial. Your wedding date will be booked in and a deposit of £50 will be required to secure your booking. This will be deducted from the outstanding amount which is due on your wedding day, but can be paid before if you wish. You can pay by cheque, cash or bank transfer. Unfortunately I am unable accept credit cards.

What happens if you or I cancel?

In the extremely unlikely event that I am not able to make your wedding date, I will send you details of other makeup artists that I would recommend and provide you with a full refund of monies paid.  If you are cancelling a trial appointment, you will not incur any charges. If you are cancelling your wedding make up, your deposit will be lost. If you cancel your wedding make up 3 weeks or less before the wedding date, 75% of the total cost will be payable.
